Barstow, CA Barstow, CA $100,000 - $125,000 a year $100,000 - $125,000 a year 7 days ago 7 days ago 7 days ago The Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Informatics plays a crucial role in the assigned department under the guidance of the Laboratory Assistant Director, Laboratory Director, and Laboratory Medical Director.
Responsible for a wide range of duties, this position involves providing technical support, evaluating Quality Control, coordinating and conducting technical training and orientation, maintaining policies and procedures, and evaluating and implementing new software when necessary.
In the absence of the Laboratory Director, Assistant Director, and Supervisor, the Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Informatics assumes responsibility for the laboratory.
On the technical front, this role involves coordinating PC and hardware setup, collaborating with the Laboratory and ITSG for project development and problem-solving, overseeing the maintenance and development of data dictionaries, charge and revenue tables, test tables, reports, interfaces, and revisions in the LIS and APS.
Troubleshooting issues with the LIS/BBS, developing patient management report formats, and retrieving patient results from archived medical records are also key responsibilities.
Additionally, the Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Informatics coordinates the orientation of laboratory staff, other department users, and physician offices in the use of the LIS, APS, and BBS.
Non-technical duties include communicating with laboratory staff, nursing staff, and physicians regarding any deviations in testing and reporting of results, assisting in staff replacement during sick calls, attending required meetings as instructed by the Laboratory Director, and providing support during regulatory inspections when necessary.
While transporting specimens and supplies between the main hospital lab and satellite locations and offering support to other laboratory staff may be required on occasion, the main focus lies in the core knowledge, skills, and abilities.
This includes knowledge of laboratory result delivery to clinicians, specimen and testing requirements, safe handling of biological specimens, and HIS/LIS/APS software database.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective oral and written communication, and proficiency in operating different computer systems and Hospital and Laboratory Information Systems are essential.
Furthermore, the ability to develop department goals and objectives and to exhibit courteous, helpful, and professional behavior in all interactions with patients, the public, and peers is expected.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
